Collection: Routine venipuncture; CSF - routine lumbar puncture

Storage Instructions: Prefer prompt delivery.  Blood - seperate serum from cells and refrigerate.  CSF - refrigerate.

Causes for Rejection: Gross hemolysis, lipemic serum

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.138, McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 24 hours; test is performed Monday - Friday

Specimen: Blood or CSF

Volume: 7 mL blood or 3 mL CSF

Minimum Volume: 3 mL blood or 1 mL CSF

Container: SST (gel barrier) preferred;  red-topped tube acceptable; CSF: 7 mL sterile plastic tube with screw cap
