Turnaround Time:

Routine: 8 hours; ASAP: 4 hours; STAT: 1 hour

Specimen Requirements: Test Includes: LDH and the source and description of the body fluid

Collect: 7 mL plastic, conical, capped tube. (Min.: 3mL)  

Specimen Preparation:  Centrifuge the specimen prior to analysis to remove possible cellular and bacterial contaminants within 1 hour. 

Storage/Transport:  Delivered to Sample Management within 1 hours of collection.  Store specimen tube at room temperature

Stability:  Room temperature for ≤2 days. Do not store refrigerated  or frozen 

Causes for Rejection: Specimen too viscous for sampling,  refrigerated specimen, incomplete and/or incorrect sample identification, improper            
Clinical Information:

If applicable, state clinical information that is required to be provided with specimen.

Reference Range:

By report (reports may vary based on instrumentation, patient age and sex)

Note:

Provide source of fluid on the request form.

When ordering tests for which Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement will be sought, physicians should only order tests that are medically necessary for the diagnosis or treatment of the patient.  Components of the organ or disease panels may be ordered individually.  The diagnostic information must substantiate all tests ordered and must be in the form of an ICD-9 code or its verbal equivalent.
