Specimen Requirements:

Collect:  7 mL of blood in gray-topped (sodium fluoride) tube or gray microtainer tube. Place tube immediately on ice after collection. (Min.: Tubes must be at least half full).

Storage/Transport:  Keep specimen on ice. Centrifuge the specimen and remove plasma from cells within 15 minutes after collection. Place plasma into a labeled plastic transport tube. Place transport tube on ice or refrigerate (2-8°C).

Stability: Room temperature 18–28°C (64–82°F) ≤8 hours, Refrigerated 2–8°C (36–46°F) ≤14 days, Frozen ≤ -18°C (≤ 0°F) ≤1 month

Causes for Rejection:  Gross hemolysis, improperly labeled specimen, improper storage/transport, plasma not removed from cells within 15 minutes after collection, specimen not placed on ice/refrigerated, and QNS specimen
