Request Form: Special Chemistry Form 2

Collection: Routine venipuncture

Storage Instructions: Refrigerate at 2-8°C.

Causes for Rejection: Blood collected in tube other than specified.

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time Routine: 24-48 hours; test performed Tuesdays and Fridays

Special Instructions: STAT requests after hours require approval of the director or pathology resident on call. All lead values >10 mcg/dL in children < 14 years old must be reported to the Texas Department of Health. It is the responsibility of both the laboratory running the test and the physician seeing the patient to report these results.

Specimen: Blood

Volume: 3 mL blood

Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL whole blood

Container: Preferred: Lavender topped tube (EDTA) Acceptable: Royal Blue topped trace metal free tube with heparin

Reference Ranges Normal Range: < 10 mcg/dL

Critical Values Potential Toxicity: > 60 mcg/dL. Follow CDC guidelines for toxicity in children.
