Collection: Routine venipuncture 8-10 hours after an oral dose

Storage Instructions: Store at 2-8°C. Centrifuge the specimen to separate serum from red cells within 4 hours of collection; refrigerate serum.

Causes for Rejection: Gross hemolysis

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 24 hours; STAT: 1 hour

Volume: 3 mL blood

Minimum Volume: 0.2 mL serum

Container: Red-topped tube or SST (gel barrier tube).

Reference Ranges: Therapeutic Range: 0.6-1.2 mmol/L

Significant Values: >1.2 mmol/L
