Turnaround Time:

 24 hours; test is performed from 7 am - 3:30 pm Monday-Friday

Specimen Requirements: Patient Preparation:  Best to collect blood before a meal.

Collect:  Routine venipuncture.  SST (gel barrier) or Red-stoppered tube

Applies To: Evaluation of infertility, diagnosis of pituitary and gonadal disorders, prediction of ovulation, aide in diagnosis of gonal failure

Storage/Transport:  The sample should be refrigerated if not delivered to the lab promptly. Centrifuge the specimen, remove serum from red cells and freeze serum for longer storage.

Causes for Rejection: Hemolysis, improperly labeled and blood collected in any anticoagulated tube. See Note.

By report (reports may vary based on instrumentation, patient age and sex)

Note:

 The test can be ordered only once per week. Additional requests must have the approval of the laboratory director.

When ordering tests for which Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement will be sought, physicians should only order tests that are medically necessary for the diagnosis or treatment of the patient.  Components of the organ or disease panels may be ordered individually.  The diagnostic information must substantiate all tests ordered and must be in the form of an ICD-9 code or its verbal equivalent.
