LUTEINIZING HORMONE, serum (087-3733) Synonyms: LH, Interstitial Cell Stimulating Hormone, ICSH, Pituitary Gonadotropin CPT 4 Code: 83002 Test Order Mnemonic: LH Applies To: Evaluation of infertility, diagnosis of pituitary and gonadal disorders, prediction of ovulation, aide in diagnosis of gonal failure Lab: Clinical Chemistry Request Form: Special Chemistry Form 2 Patient Preparation: Best to collect blood before a meal. Collection: Routine venipuncture Storage Instructions: The sample should be refrigerated if not delivered to the lab promptly. Centrifuge the specimen, remove serum from red cells and freeze serum for longer storage. Causes for Rejection: Hemolysis, improperly labeled and blood collected in any anticoagulated tube. See special instructions. Causes for Rejection: Gross hemolysis. See special instructions. Availability: Samples can be delivered to Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough, 24 hours per day. Turnaround Time: 24 hours; test is performed Monday-Friday Special Instructions: The test can be ordered only once per week. Additional requests must have the approval of the laboratory director.
