Request Form: Routine Chemistry Form 1

Patient Preparation: Patient should refrain from vigorous exercise 24 hours prior to urine collection.

Collection: A 24-hour specimen is preferred; a first morning specimen is acceptable

Storage Instructions: Refrigerate specimen during collection and until delivered to the laboratory.

Causes for Rejection: Specimen collected with any preservative, gross hematuria, gross blood contamination, glass collection containers.

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Test is performed Monday – Friday.

Special Instructions: Note volume of urine and number of hours of collection on the request form. Note date and time the collection is started and finished.

Specimen: Urine

Volume: Entire amount of urine collected is preferred; 20 mL aliquot of well-mixed 24-hour urine or 10 mL of first morning urine is acceptable

Minimum Volume: 3 mL urine

Container: 3 mL brown plastic jug with no preservative or sterile 4 oz plastic container with screw cap

Reference Ranges: Adult Microalbumin: Random: 0-45 mcg/mL; 24 hr: 0-20 mcg/min

Test Method: Chemeluminescence
