Patient Preparation: Discontinue medications so that the sample is free of drug metabolites.

Collection: Random urine

Storage Instructions: Refrigerate/freeze

Causes for Rejection: Specimens not refrigerated 24 hours. See special instructions.

Availability: Samples can be delivered to the Developmental Nutrition and Metabolism Lab, Room C3.350P Children's Hospital, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM, Monday-Friday or to Sample Management, 5.136 McCullough, 24 hours per day.

Turnaround Time: 48 hours

Special Instructions: Free from drug therapy for 48 hours. The test can be ordered only once per inpatient admission and once per month for outpatients. Additional requests must have the approval of the laboratory directory.
