Patient Preparation: Overnight fast

Collection: Routine venipuncture; AM collection preferred

Storage Instructions: Preferred: Centrifuge the specimen in a refrigerated centrifuge, remove serum from red cells and freeze serum immediately.

Causes for Rejection Samples: Not on ice or not frozen appropriately. See special instructions. Plasma samples will be rejected.

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: 1 - 5 working days. Test is performed once a week (Monday - Friday).

Special Instructions: PTH requires serum calcium determination.

Volume: 7 mL blood

Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL serum

Container: 7 mL SST (gel barrier) tube

Reference Ranges: 7-53 pg/mL
