Collection: Routine venipuncture. Collect the sample immediately prior to next dose.

Storage Instructions: Store at room temperature. Centrifuge the specimen to separate serum from red cells within 4 hours of collection and refrigerate serum.

Causes for Rejection: Blood drawn in SST/gel separator tubes

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 24 hours; STAT: 1 hour

Volume: 3 mL blood

Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL serum

Container: Red-topped tube. Do not used SST/serum separator tube. Tubes containing heparin or EDTA can be used.

Reference Ranges: Therapeutic Range: 15-40 mcg/mL.

Significant Values: Potential toxicity: > 50 mcg/mL
