Collection: Routine venipuncture

Storage Instructions: Centrifuge the specimen to separate serum from cells within 2 hours of collection. Refrigerate 2-8°C.

Causes for Rejection: Hemolysis, improperly labeled specimen, specimen QNS, specimen not separated from cells

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 4 hours; STAT: 1 hour

Specimen: Blood

Volume: 7 mL blood

Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL serum

Container: SST (gel barrier) or red-topped tube

Reference Ranges: 2.8 - 4.9 mg/dL

Significant Values: < 1.0 mg/dL
