Collection: Routine venipuncture. Collect the sample immediately prior to the next dose.

Storage Instructions: Store at room temperature or at 2-8°C. Centrifuge the specimen to separate the serum from red cells within 4 hours of collection.

Causes for Rejection: Blood collected in a SST/gel separator tube

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 24 hours; STAT: 1 hour

Special Instructions: Do not order phenobarbital as a separate test.
