Methodology:

Turnaround Time:

 24 hours; test is performed Monday - Friday from 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Specimen Requirements:

Collect: Routine venipuncture.  SST (gel barrier) or Red-stoppered tube

Applies To: In conjunction with estrogen, it regulates the reproductive tract functions during the menstrual cycle and is critical in preparing the endometrium for blastocyst implantation and the maintenance of pregnancy.

Storage/Transport: Centrifuge the specimen to separate serum from cells within 2 hours of collection.

Causes for Rejection: Gross hemolysis or Lipemia, improperly labeled and blood collected in any anticoagulated tube.

If applicable, state clinical information that is required to be provided with specimen.

Reference Range:

By report (reports may vary based on instrumentation, patient age and sex)

Note:

  The test can be ordered only once per week. Additional requests must have the approval of the laboratory director.

When ordering tests for which Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement will be sought, physicians should only order tests that are medically necessary for the diagnosis or treatment of the patient.  Components of the organ or disease panels may be ordered individually.  The diagnostic information must substantiate all tests ordered and must be in the form of an ICD-9 code or its verbal equivalent.
