Test Includes: Free protoporphyrin vs. zinc protoporphyrin if increased.

Collection: Routine venipuncture

Storage Instructions: Protect from light and refrigerate.

Causes for Rejection: Sample not protected from light.

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at Sample Management, 5.136 McCullough or from 8 AM-5 PM, Monday-Friday at Room 3.102, Ewing Hall.

Turnaround Time: Routine; test is performed weekly.

Special Instructions: Provide hematocrit for a frozen sample.

Specimen: Whole blood

Volume: 7 mL

Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL

Container: Green-topped tube (heparin)

Reference Range: 20 – 80 m g/dL RBC
