Collection: Routine venipuncture.

Storage Instructions: Centrifuge, remove serum from cells, refrigerate serum until delivered to lab.

Causes for Rejection: Gross hemolysis, lipemia, plasma, improperly labeled, incomplete information.

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: 24 hours; test performed Monday – Friday.

Specimen: Blood

Volume: 7 mL blood

Minimum Volume: 1 mL blood

Container Preferred: 7 mL SST (gel barrier); Acceptable:7 mL red-topped tube.

Reference Range: <20 IU/mL, values >36 IU/mL are considered significant.

Test Method: Chemiluminescence
