Collection: Routine venipuncture.

Storage Instructions: Centrifuge the specimen to separate the serum from red cells; refrigerate.

Causes for Rejection: Blood drawn in SST/gel separator tubes

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 24 hours; STAT: 1 hour

Special Instructions: Indicate suspected drug(s) if possible.

Specimen: Blood

Volume: 7 mL blood.

Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL serum

Container: Red-topped tube. Do not use SST (gel-barrier tube).

Reference Ranges: Therapeutic Range: <100mcg/mL (Antipyretic, Analgesic) or 100-250mcg/mL (Anti-Inflammatory)

Significant Values: > 300 mcg/mL is associated with toxicity
