Collection: Random or 24-hour collection

Storage Instructions: Refrigerate at 2-8°C.

Causes for Rejection: Improperly labeled specimen

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 4 hours; STAT: 1 hour

Special Instructions: Timed collections must have start date and time, finish date and time, and total volume on request form.

Specimen: Feces

Volume: 10 mL or 10 gms (random or aliquot of timed collection)

Minimum Volume: 5 mL or 5 gms (random or aliquot of timed collection)

Container: Plastic container with tight-fitting lid or aliquot of timed collection.

Reference Ranges: Newborn – Adult: 4.4 - 112 mmol/L; Timed collection : < 10 mmol/24 hours
