Collection: Random or 24-hour collection

Storage Instructions: Timed collections must be kept cool during collection. Refrigerate at 2-8°C or keep on ice until delivered to the laboratory.

Causes for Rejection: Improperly labeled specimen

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 4 hours, STAT: 1 hour

Special Instructions: Timed collections must have start time and date, finish time and date, and total volume on request form.

Specimen: Urine

Volume: 10 mL urine (random or aliquot of timed collection)

Minimum Volume: 5 mL urine (random or aliquot of timed collection)

Container: Plastic container with tight-fitting lid

Reference Ranges: Newborn - Adult: 40-220 mmol/24 hours
