Collection: Routine venipuncture; AM collection preferred

Storage Instructions: Red-topped Tube: Centrifuge, remove serum from cells, refrigerate until delivered to lab; if delivery is delayed by more than 24 hours, freeze.

Causes for Rejection: Blood drawn in any anticoagulated tube.

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 1- 5 working days. Test is performed once per week.

Specimen: Blood

Volume: 7 mL blood

Minimum Volume: 0.4 mL serum

Container: SST (gel barrier) or 7 or 10 mL red-topped tube (see storage instructions)

Reference Ranges: 15yrs -150yrs will be 60 - 181 ng/dL

Test Method: Chemiluminescence
