VOLATILE PANEL, serum (087-0457) CPT 4 Code: 84600 Test Order Mnemonic: VOLIT PAN Test Includes: Acetone, Ethanol, Isopropanol, Methanol Lab: Clinical Chemistry Request Form: Special Chemistry Form 2. Chain of Custody form required for possible legal samples. Collection: Routine venipuncture. Cleaning of puncture site should be performed with a non-alcoholic solution. Arterial, venous, or capillary whole blood properly collected in a closed system is the preferred specimen. Storage Instructions: Blood is stable at room temperature (25°C) for 48 hours; refrigerated (5°C) for about two weeks; centrifuge the specimen, remove serum/plasma and freeze at (-15°C) for up to about four weeks. Tube should be completely filled and must be tightly stoppered. Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough. Turnaround Time: Routine: 24 hours Special Instructions: Requests after 5 p.m. require approval of the director or pathology resident on call. Specimen: Blood and other body fluids. Volume: 7 mL blood or fluid. Minimum Volume: 1 mL serum or fluid.
