Collection: Routine venipuncture

Storage Instructions: Prefer prompt delivery. Separate serum from cells and refrigerate.

Causes for Rejection: Gross hemolysis or lipemia

Availability: Samples are received 24 hrs per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 24 hours; test is performed Monday-Friday

Specimen: Blood

Volume: 7 mL blood

Minimum Volume: 1 mL blood

Container: Preferred: SST or Red-topped tube; Acceptable: Green-topped (heparinized) or lavender-topped (EDTA) tube

Reference Ranges: Less than 8 weeks: 32-199 mg/dL; 8 weeks-150 years: 83-199 mg/dL

Test Method: Nephelometric
