Request Form: Special Chemistry Form 2.

Collection: Routine Venipuncture.

Storage Instructions: Prefer prompt delivery.   Centrifuge the specimen to separate the serum from red cells and refrigerate 2-8°C for up to 7 days, -20°C for longer storage.

Causes for Rejection: Gross hemolysis, lipemia, insufficient volume, sample not labeled appropriately.

Availability: Samples are received 24 hrs per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 24 hrs; test performed 8AM - 5PM Monday - Friday.

Specimen: Blood

Volume: 7 mL blood; Pediatric - 1 mL

Minimum Volume: 3 mL blood or 0.5mL of serum.

Container: Preferred: SST (gel barrier tube); acceptable:  Red-topped tube

Reference Ranges:

Cord Blood: 57-116 mg/dL 1 month:  53-124 mg/dL 2 months: 59-149 mg/dL
3 months: 64-131 mg/dL 4 months: 62-167 mg/dL 5 months: 64-167 mg/dL
6 months: 74-171 mg/dL 7-9 months: 75-166 mg/dL 10-12 months: 73-180 mg/dL
1 year: 84-174 mg/dL 2 years: 81-170 mg/dL 3 years: 77-171 mg/dL
4-5 years: 86-166 mg/dL 6-8 years:88-155 mg/dL 9-10 years: 89-195 mg/dL
Adult:  83-177 mg/dL
