Request Form: Special Chemistry Form 2.

Collection: Routine Venipuncture.

Storage Instructions: Prefer prompt delivery.   Centrifuge the specimen to separate the serum from red cells and refrigerate 2-8°C for up to 7 days, -20°C for longer storage.

Causes for Rejection: Gross hemolysis, lipemia, insufficient volume, sample not labeled appropriately.

Availability: Samples are received 24 hrs per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 24 hrs; test performed 8AM - 5PM Monday - Friday.

Specimen: Blood

Volume: 7 mL blood; Pediatric - 1 mL

Minimum Volume: 3 mL blood or 0.5mL of serum.

Container: Preferred: SST (gel barrier tube); acceptable:  Red-topped tube

Reference Ranges:

Cord Blood: 6.6-23.0 mg/dL

1 month: 7.0-25.0 mg/dL

2 months: 7.4-28.0mg/dL

3 months:  8.7-27.0 mg/dL

4 months: 8.3-38.0 mg/dL

5 months: 7.1-36.0 mg/dL

6 months:  8.6-42.0 mg/dL

7-9 months: 9.5-37.0 mg/dL

10-12 months:2.0-39.0 mg/dL

1 year:  12.0-40.0 mg/dL

2 years: 9.2-34.0 mg/dL

3 years: 9.7-36.0  mg/dL

4-5 years: 13.0-32.0 mg/dL

6-8 years: 12-32 mg/dL

9-10 years:10-40 mg/dL

Adult: 15-45 mg/dL
