Storage Instructions: DO NOT OPEN TUBE. Use only SST (gel barrier) tube if ordering additional tests and specimen cannot reach laboratory within 2 hours of collection. Spin SST (gel barrier) tube to separate serum. DO NOT OPEN. Refrigerate at 2-8°C.

Causes for Rejection: Any tube that has been opened and exposed to air, gross hemolysis

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: 1 hour

Special Instructions: If specimen can be received in laboratory within 2 hours of collection then a red top tube may be used. DO NOT OPEN.

Volume: 7 mL blood

Container: SST (gel barrier) or red-topped tube, DO NOT OPEN

Reference Ranges: 4.5-5.3 mg/dL

Critical Values: < 3.0 mg/dL or > 6.5 mg/dL
