Collection: Prefer: transabdominal amniocentesis. Accept: specimens obtained from a pool of fluid in the vagina immediately after rupture of the membranes.

Storage Instructions: Store the sample at 2-8°C in a capped container. If delivery to the lab is delayed for more than a week, freeze specimen at –20°C.

Causes for Rejection: Improperly labeled.

Availability: Samples are received 24 hrs per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 4 hours; STAT: 1 hour

Volume: 6 mL

Minimum Volume: 2 mL

Container: Capped syringe.
