CERVICAL SMEAR - CYTOLOGY Synonyms: Pap Smear Applies To: Detection of abnormal cells and malignant cells Lab: Cytopathology Laboratory Request Form: Cytopathology Requisition Form Collection: See PAP Smear Collection Storage Instructions: Slides should be fixed in 95% alcohol or sprayed with cytology fixative immediately. Causes for Rejection: Incomplete and/or improper labeling, insufficient pertinent clinical history, specimen not fixed on slide immediately. See the Cytopathology specimens acceptance and rejection policy. Availability: Specimens are accepted Monday-Friday from 8 AM-5 PM (except holidays) at Room 9.300, John Sealy Annex. Turnaround Time: Routine: 3-5 working days; STAT: same day Special Instructions: Pertinent clinical information must be included on request Form. Slides must be labeled in pencil (frosted end) with patient's full name and unit history number.
