BLOOD CHROMOSOME ANALYSIS, blood

Synonyms: Karyotyping, Chromosome Studies, Chromosome Analysis, Cytogenetic Analysis, Chromosome Translocation  Limited Coverage Test (NCD) and LCD

Test Includes: Cell culture and chromosome analysis

Collection: Routine venipuncture

Storage Instructions: Blood should be delivered as soon as possible. It should not be frozen or exposed to temperature extremes.  Samples collected after hours or on weekends should be refrigerated and delivered the next working day.

Causes for Rejection: Not collected in sodium heparin, missing or incorrect paperwork, unlabeled tubes, insufficient sample, frozen sample, clotted sample

Availability: Samples are received 8 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday-Friday, at Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory, Children's Hospital, Suite # 3.350.

Turnaround Time: 14 days

Special Instructions: Contact Laboratory at X23466 or X23465. Deliver sample to Children's Hospital, Suite # 3.350.

Specimen: Blood

Volume: 3-5 mL

Minimum Volume: 1 mL

Container: Sodium-heparinized tube delivered in leak- and puncture-resistant container

Reference Ranges: - 46,XX or 46,XY
