Test Order Mnemonic: ACIDPHOS

Applies To: Identification of specific leukemias, particularly hairy cell leukemia

Lab: Hematopathology

Request Form: Hematology A

Collection: Collect in EDTA. Invert promptly to prevent clotting.

Storage Instructions: Deliver to Hematopathology within 30 minutes of collection.

Cause For Rejection: QNS, old specimen, identification errors, receipt in lab after hours unless prior arrangement made

Availability: Samples are accepted 8 AM - 2 PM, Monday-Friday, Hematology Lab, Room 5.142,McCullough Building.

Turnaround Time: 48 hours

Special Instructions: Test must be approved by Hematopathologist or Hematology/Oncology Faculty member.

Specimen: Blood, bone marrow aspirate.

Volume: 2.0 mL

Minimum Volume: 1.0 mL

Container: Lavender-topped tube (EDTA)

Reference Ranges: Interpretive Test (call Lab)

Test Method: Cytochemical hydrolysis of monophosphate esters in acidic medium; Microscopy.

Interfering Substances Inappropriate fixatives or anticoagulants
