SMEAR CONSULT (BY PATHOLOGIST) (089-0537) Synonyms: Diff Consult CPT 4 Code: 85060 Test Order Mnemonic: DIFCONSLT Test Includes: Peripheral blood smear review by pathologist. Applies To: Review of previously reported abnormal WBC differential or RBC morphologic abnormalities. Lab: Hematopathology Request Form: Hematology A Collection: Routine venipuncture. Storage Instructions: For best results, deliver to lab within one hour. Accepted up to 6 hours. Causes for Rejection: Clotted; QNS, hemolysis, old specimen, identification error. Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours/day at Sample Management, 5.136 McCullough. Turnaround Time: 24 hours (Monday-Friday reporting) Special Instructions: CBC with differential must be previously reported in order to request smear consult. (Smear consult can be requested by phone on previously reported specimen or by sending an additional specimen after abnormal differential results have been reported.)
