FACTOR V (089-0008) CPT 4 Code: Factor V-85220; Factor VIII-85240; Factor IX-85250; Factor XI-85270; Factor XII-85280 Test Order Mnemonic: FACTOR V; FACTOR VIII; FACTOR IX; FACTOR XI; FACTOR XII Applies To: Measures levels of factor/s that can be useful in diagnosing bleeding disorders and liver disease. Lab: Hematopathology Request Form: Hematology A Collection: Routine venipuncture; discard 1st mL of blood or collect other tubes (EDTA, red-topped) prior to collecting sample in blue-topped (citrate) tube. Storage Instructions: Factor V: 4 hours at 2-8 C; Factor VIII: 2 hours at room temp, 4 hours at 2-8 C; Factor IX , XI, and XII: 3 hours at room temp. If time from draw to receipt in the laboratory is to be greater than 4 hours, centrifuge the specimen; remove the plasma from red cells and snap freeze (-70°C) plasma. Snap frozen plasma is viable indefinitely. Causes for Rejection: 3.8% sodium citrate tube, QNS, clotted, severely hemolyzed specimen, specimen greater than 4 hours old, identification error, sample processed and/or stored improperly. Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at Sample Management, 5.136 McCullough Bldg. Turnaround Time: STAT: 1 ½ hours; ROUTINE: 4 hours Special Instructions: Deliver sample to lab within ½ hour for best results. Accepted up to 4 hours from draw.
