BORDETELLA DIRECT FLUORESCENT ANTIBODY TEST

Synonyms: Pertussis Direct Fluorescent Test

Collection: Collect nasopharyngeal swab; use flexible wire swab.

Storage Instructions: Room temperature

Causes for Rejection: Inappropriate source

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at the Microbiology Processing Laboratory, Room 5.137 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: 1-3 days

Special Instructions: Nasopharyngeal (flexible wire) swabs may be obtained from the Microbiology Laboratory, Room 5.137 McCullough Building. This test is offered in conjunction with a Bordetella pertussis culture. DFA testing is less sensitive than culture and should not be the only test performed.
