Applies To: Isolation of Bordetella species from Nasopharynx

Request Form: Microbiology

Collection: Nasopharyngeal swab - flexible wire swab, direct inoculation of agar medium at bedside is preferred.

Storage Instructions: Room temperature

Causes for Rejection: Improper source, improper collection

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at the Microbiology Processing Laboratory, Room 5.137 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: 7-10 days

Special Instructions: Nasopharyngeal source is only acceptable specimen; Direct FA may also be ordered with the culture. Special collection kits are required and available in Microbiology Laboratory, Room 5.137 McCullough Building.
