Applies to: Detection of Toxins A & B produced by Clostridium difficile and detected in fecal samples.

Request Form: Microbiology

Collection: Collect feces in clean, leak-proof container

Storage Instructions: Store sample at 2-8°C until transport

Causes for Rejection: Insufficient quantity, culturette, leaking container, formed stool, stool in preservatives.

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at the Microbiology Processing Laboratory, Room 5.137 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: 1 day; test performed Sunday through Friday

Specimen: liquid stool or feces

Minimum Volume: 1 ml or 1 gram

Container: Clean, leak-proof container

Test Method:  Semi-automated EIA for Toxins A and B
