Collection: Routine venipuncture, SST (serum separator tube)

Storage Instructions: Room temperature. If storing greater than 24 hours, refrigerate.

Causes for Rejection: Gross hemolysis, bacterial contamination, lipemia, repeat sample when initial sample is negative within 2 weeks of first collection, previously positive patient, improper collection or sample.

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time:  1-2 days. Test performed Monday through Friday.

Special Instructions: Previously positive patients do not require repeat testing. If the patient has no detectable antibody, testing at greater than two-week intervals is appropriate. Tests on samples collected less than two weeks from the initial result will be canceled unless approved by the Director of Microbiology or designee.
