Clinical Indication:	Suspected CSF infection with yeast or mold
Test Mnemonic:	F FUN
Methodology:	Culture for the isolation and identification of yeast and molds
Performed:	Clinical Microbiology
Turnaround Time:	3 weeks
Specimen Requirements:	Patient Preparation: Refer to general section of LSG for collection instructions Collect: 0.5ml of CSF Specimen Preparation: Tube #2 is usually for microbiology tests Storage/Transport: Room temperature or refrigerate. Stability: 48 hours Causes for Rejection: Insufficient volume, swabs
Clinical Information:	Positive culture results are considered a critical value and notification will be performed upon recognition of the positive result, first occurrence.
Reference Range:	No growth
Note:	Order Cryptococcus antigen test separately test, if clinically indicated. Antifungal susceptibility testing is performed only with approval.

When ordering tests for which Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement will be sought, physicians should only order tests that are medically necessary for the diagnosis or treatment of the patient. Components of the organ or disease panels may be ordered individually. The diagnostic information must substantiate all tests ordered and must be in the form of an ICD-9 code or its verbal equivalent.
