Request Form: Microbiology

Collection: Collect skin scrapings, aspirate, fluid, etc. in the same manner as a fungus culture. Most fungal culture requests include a screening KOH prep. Order separately if no a routine specimen type. Call Microbiology Lab if there are questions - 772-1125.

Storage Instructions: Room temperature

Causes for Rejection: Sputum, CSF, urine, blood

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at the Microbiology Processing Laboratory, Room 5.137 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: 1 day; test performed Monday-Saturday

Specimen: Skin scrapings, aspirate, fluid, tissue, hair. These samples have KOH as part of the Fungus culture order. Specify this test if on other sample types.

Container: Sterile container
