Test Order Mnemonic: C GBS

Applies To: Recovery of Group B Streptococcus from vaginal/anal samples during pregnancy.

Lab: Bacteriology

Request Form: Microbiology

Collection: Collect swab of a specimen from vaginal introitus and anorectum. Cervical specimens are not recommended. Crush ampule on culturette after collection.

Storage Instructions: Room temperature or refrigerate

Causes for Rejection: Mislabeled samples, inappropriate collection.

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at the Microbiology Processing Laboratory, Room 5.137 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Preliminary report after 1 day, final report after 2-3 days.

Specimen: Vaginal, anal-rectal
