Test Order Mnemonic: HYP

Lab: Serology

Request Form: Microbiology/Serology

Collection: Routine venipuncture, SST (serum separator tube)

Storage Instructions: Centrifuge the specimen and store at 2-8°C.

Causes for Rejection: Gross hemolysis, lipemia, bacterial contamination

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at Sample Management, 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: 1-2 days. Test performed Monday through Friday

Special Instructions: Previously positive patients do not require repeat testing. If the patient has no detectable antibody, it is recommended to wait at least two weeks before testing again. Tests on samples collected less than two weeks from the initial negative results will be cancelled, unless approved by a Microbiology Director or designee.
