HEPATITIS B VIRUS CORE ANTIBODY (Total) (088-7176) Synonyms: Anti-HBc, Anti-HB Core Ag, HBcAb (IgG/IgM)CPT4 Code: 86704 Test Order Mnemonic: HBC Lab: Serology Request Form: Microbiology/Serology Collection: Routine venipuncture, SST (serum separator tube) Storage Instructions: Centrifuge the specimen and store at 2-8°C Causes for Rejection: Gross hemolysis, lipemia, specimens containing particulate matter Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at Sample Management, 5.136McCullough. Turnaround Time: 24 - 72 hours Special Instructions: This test detects both IgG and IgM antibodies to Hepatitis B core antigen. Previously positive patients do not require repeat testing. If the patient has no detectable antibody, it is recommended to wait at least three months before testing again. Tests on samples collected less than three months from the initial negative results will be cancelled, unless approved by a Microbiology Director or designee.
