Collection:

Collection fluid and scrapings from the base of the lesion, obtaining epithelial cells for examination. Inoculate viral transport media with the swab (flocked).

 Store refrigerated

Causes for Rejection:

Improper collection, delayed transport to lab, transport at room temperature

Availability:

Samples are accepted 24 hour per day at the Microbiology Laboratory - Room 5.137 McCullough.

Turnaround Time:

Test is performed Monday - Friday

Special Instructions:

Transport specimens in VTM (Viral transport medium) on ice, as soon as possible. It is recommended to follow up a negative direct result with a virus culture for completeness.
