Test Order Mnemonic: MONO

Lab: Serology

Request Form: Microbiology/Serology

Collection: Routine venipuncture, SST (serum separator tube)

Storage Instructions: Room temperature. If storing greater than 24 hours, refrigerate.

Causes for Rejection: Gross hemolysis, bacterial contamination, lipemia.

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Test performed Monday - Saturday

Special Instructions: If the mono test is negative on a patient less than ten years of age, a Epstein Barr virus VCA antibody IgM test is suggested to rule out mononucleosis in this age group.

Specimen: Blood

Minimum Volume: 0.5 ml serum

Container: SST (gel barrier)

Test Method: Latex agglutination
