LEGIONELLA ANTIGEN TEST (088-0527)

Synonyms: Legionella antigen, urine

CPT 4 Code: 87899

Test Order Mnemonic: C LUA

Test includes: Detection of Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 antigen in urine

Laboratory: Bacteriology

Request Form: Microbiology

Collection: Urine

Storage instructions: Refrigerate; transport as soon as possible.

Causes for rejection: Leaking container, insufficient volume, specimens other than urine, more than one specimen submitted.

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at the Microbiology Processing Laboratory, Room 5.137 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Test is performed once per day (including weekends).

Specimen: Urine (clean catch). First morning specimen is recommended

Minimum volume: 1 ml

Container: Sterile, leak-proof container.

Reference Ranges: Negative

Special Instructions: A culture of respiratory sources should also be performed, since a negative result does not rule out infection with Legionella.
