Test Order Mnemonic: O OP

Applies To: Schistosoma haematobium, Trichomonas vaginalis, and Filariasis

Lab: Parasitology

Request Form: Microbiology

Collection: If Schistosoma is suscepted, a urine collectionof 24-hours is the recommended sample, (no preservatives) unrefrigerated.   If Trichomonas or microfilaria are suscepted, collection of a midstream, clean-voided urine.

Storage Instructions: room temperature

Causes for Rejection: Specimen submitted in preservative, specimen older than 24 hours

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at the Microbiology Processing Laboratory, Room 5.137 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: 1 day; test performed Monday-Friday

Specimen: Urine

Minimum Volume: 5 ml

Container: Clean, leak-proof container
