Test Order Mnemonic: C QUANT

Test Includes: Numerical quantitation of aerobic bacteria and yeast recovered from biopsy samples.

Lab: Bacteriology

Request Form: Microbiology

Collection: Using aseptic technique, collect a biopsy/tissue from the infected area with as little surrounding tissue as possible.

Storage Instructions: Room temperature

Causes for Rejection: Insufficient quantity, non-sterile container

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at the Microbiology Processing Laboratory, Room 5.137 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Preliminary after 1 day, final after 3 days

Special Instructions: Do not add any fluid to the container. Transport immediately. This culture is primarily used in the care of burn patients and is not generally indicated for other types of infected tissue.

Minimum Volume: 0.5 gram
