TOXOPLASMA GONDII ANTIBODY IgM (088-5020)

Test Order Mnemonic:  TOXM

Lab: Serology

Request Form: Microbiology/Serology

Collection: Routine venipuncture, SST (serum separator tube)

Storage Instructions: Centrifuge and store at 2-8°C.

Causes for Rejection: Lipemia, gross hemolysis, bacterial contamination.

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Test performed once per week

Special Instructions: The Toxoplasma gondii IgM test cannot be performed without a concurrent Toxoplasma gondii IgG test according to CDC guidelines. If ordered singly, the Toxoplasma gondii IgM test will be canceled. Previously positive patients do not require further testing. If the patient has no detectable antibody, it is recommended to wait at least two weeks before repeat testing. Tests on samples collected less than two weeks from the initial negative results will be canceled unless approved by a Microbiology Director or designee.
