URINE CULTURE (088-0510) Synonyms: Culture, urine CPT 4 Code: 87086 (This is a Limited Coverage Test (NCD) Test Order Mnemonic: C UR Test Includes: Colony count and isolation of aerobic bacteria, including identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing when appropriate Lab: Bacteriology Request Form: Microbiology Collection: Follow instructions in the urine collection kit. Transfer urine to grey-top vacutainer tube included in the collection kit. Storage Instructions: Refrigerate Causes for Rejection: Prolonged transport time, specimen received in a non-sterile container, leaking container, more than one sample received within 48 hours. Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at the Microbiology Processing Laboratory, Room 5.137 McCullough. Turnaround Time: Preliminary report after 1 day, final report after 2-3 days Special Instructions: Gram stains are not routinely performed, order as a separate test if needed. Please specify if sample is from a suprapubic collection so that special processing procedures are used.
