VARICELLA ZOSTER IMMUNE STATUS (088-0070)

Test Order Mnemonic: VZVG

Applies to: Detection of antibody to varicella zoster virus to determine immune status

Lab: Serology

Request Form: Microbiology/Serology

Collection: Routine venipuncture, SST (serum separator) tube

Storage Instructions: Centrifuge and store at 2-8°C.

Causes for Rejection: Microbial contamination

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Test is performed once each week.

Special Instructions: This test is used to determine immunity and not acute infection. Previously positive patients require no further testing. If the patient has no detectable antibody, it is recommended to wait two weeks before testing again. Tests on samples collected less than two weeks from the initial negative results will be cancelled unless approved by a Microbiology Director or designee.
