Test Order Mnemonic: C VIB

Applies To: Isolation of Vibrio species

Lab: Bacteriology

Request Form: Microbiology

Collection: Collect random feces in a clean, leak-proof container.

Storage Instructions: Refrigerate.

Causes for Rejection: Leaking container, prolonged delay in transit

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at the Microbiology Processing Laboratory, Room 5.137 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Preliminary report after 1 day, final report after 2-3 days

Special Instructions: Special media for the isolation of Vibrio are not included in a routine stool culture; therefore vibrio culture must be ordered separately.   Vibrio culture refers to fecal sources only.

Specimen: Feces, stool, rectal swab

Volume: 5 grams

Minimum Volume: 1 gram

Container: Clean, leak-proof container
