Test Order Mnemonic: B-CELL

Applies to: Presence of B-cell gene rearrangement occurring in the JH region

Lab: Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory

Request Form: Must be manually written on any of the available Laboratory Request Forms with signature approval of Director of Laboratory

Collection: Routine Venipuncture, tissue biopsy, bone marrow aspiration

Storage Instructions: Refrigerate whole blood, bone marrow aspirate, store tissue at -70° C

Causes for Rejection: Serum, heparin collection tube

Availability: Samples are accepted Monday –Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Room 5.212, John Sealy Annex with consultation and approval by Director or Hematopathologist

Special Instructions: JH PCR will be before gene rearrangement. A negative result will be evaluated by Director to determine if further testing by gene rearrangement is appropriate. Do not Centrifuge or separate specimen

Specimen: Whole blood with EDTA or Sodium Citrate, Fresh frozen tissue, Bone Marrow Aspirate

Volume: 10 mls. whole blood or aspirate, 0.5 grams tissue

Container: EDTA (purple) or sodium citrate (blue), or sterile container for tissue
