Test Includes: Gross examination, light and electron microscopic examination and nerve tease preparation with diagnosis

Applies To: Small nerve tissue specimens for diagnosis of peripheral nerve disease

Lab: Surgical Pathology

Request Form: Surgical Pathology Laboratory Tissue Consultation (Requisition Form 86)

Collection: Page the neuropathologist on call prior to surgery. See special instructions

Storage Instructions: Tissue must be obtained immediately in the fresh state. Tissue must not be immersed in saline or formalin. See special instructions

Causes for Rejection: See special instructions

Availability: See Collection above.

Turnaround Time: up to 10 days, depending on procedures required.

Special Instructions: Obtain detailed instructions from Surgical Pathology or Neuropathology.

Specimen: Sural Nerve.
